Story Don't ride with someone drunk!

On Dec. 2, 2000 I was out partying with friends.
I had a sober chauffer whom I thought was a good friend.
I passed out in the truck for her to decide she wanted to go home
and give the keys back to the guy that was with us.

I woke up due to the truck swerving.
I looked over and he was passed out behind the wheel.
I knew there was nothing I could do because of the high rate of speed
and the fact that we were on a really bad curve.
The only thing there was that I could do was throw my legs in the floorboard
of the truck and hang on to the console.

We bounced off the guardrail three times then flipped over the guardrail
and hit the bluff over turning on my side of the truck skidding 108 ft.
The truck then came back over the guardrail spinning around and
hit the guardrail stopping facing on coming traffic.
We were nearly hit head on by a semi.

A wonderful person who was passing by stopped and gave me his coat
and talked to me till paramedics came.
I remember it was the longest wait ever.
They got the driver out with no problem and he was so inebriated
he swore to the officers that I was driving
when i had the dash folded over the back of my legs.

It took them 45 long excruciating minutes to extricate me.
They took me to a local hospital where they tried to call my family but
couldn't get through so they had to send an officer.
My parents knew immediately it was something to do with me.
They came to the hospital just to see me for a few minutes
and find out I was being life flighted to Columbia University Hospital and Clinics.

It was forever before they were able to see me.
They learned that I had to go for emergency surgery because
my femur and came out the back of my leg.
I also had a T-12 L-1 bursting fracture in my back therefore
I had a very small chance of walking again,
I had crushed my hip and broke my pelvis in half.
I also had a blood clot in my knee and they thought
I was going to lose my left leg.

I by the grace of god pulled through.
I was in the hospital until December 26 then went to rehab.
Six months after my crash I started moving my left leg and
can now feel to my knees.

My mother took this crash a lot harder then I did.
It definitely did a lot of damage to my family.
I have had ups and downs during this time but never once have I given up.
I will one way or the other walk again no matter what the doctors say.

I ended up with pheumonia in 2003 and was on a ventilator for 6 days.
So I definately have alot of fight in me.

Pictures of the wreck!
